history

As early as the Zhou dynasty in China, there was a record of "listing the trees in order to show the road." In the Roman era, there were milestones and signposts on the Military Avenue from Rome to Gagua. But most people think that the origins of modern road traffic signs should date back to December 1879 in Britain, a local club participating in the Cycling Federation, the Seklinge Club, which set a warning sign on the road to the mountains : "To Seculitt - the hill is dangerous". This early warning sign painted on iron plate became the earliest road traffic sign recorded in the history. The earliest administration of traffic signs on the road administration department, is England Ingolstadt's Invt Marsh road administration. It set a warning sign in October 1881 on the prominence of Mount Mortyn. In October 1901, with the permission of the State of Gloucestershire, the British Automobile Federation set the world's first car-specific warning sign on the hilltop at Badlip in Gloucester. Later, the relevant British administration obtained the right to set traffic signs under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance promulgated in 1903 and issued a document entitled "Advised the following traffic signs" to all the local administrations on March 10 of the same year: Draw a 457 mm (18 in.) Diameter white snake on the board indicating the speed limit; red circles indicate no signs; red triangles indicate warnings; diamonds indicate intersections, dangerous corners, sharp turns. Since all the local authorities did not accept the above proposal at the time, there was a chaotic situation in which the traffic signs were not uniform and not conducive to the immediate identification of motorists. It was not until 1930 that the uniform Traffic Signs Act was recognized throughout the United Kingdom, making traffic signs more standardized.

In 1903, France was the first country in the world to use a unified car traffic sign nationwide thanks to the active promotion of the French Automobile Federation. French traffic signs were then written on black wood boards with white paint "left turn" "right turn" bridge "dangerous uphill" to remind drivers of the text.

In 1908, at the first international road conference held in Paris, the issue of unification of traffic signs was put forward and a unified international traffic sign was decided. Countries and regions that demanded attending the meeting drew uniformed traffic signs such as "road irregularities, intersections, detours, and railroads in front of the road" on triangular boards. Meetings have been held in Europe, the Americas, and Africa many times to discuss the issue of the unity of traffic signs, both regional and international. Traffic management authorities in countries and regions throughout Europe and the rest of the world have incorporated the harmonized traffic signs into road traffic management and have innovated and developed based on the road conditions in 36 different countries.

In 1935, the first version of the Manual of United Traffic Control Devices was published in the United States, recommending the uniform methods and standards for traffic signs throughout the United States, and even mentioned the proposal to use "luminescent materials "Making traffic signs to improve night-time traffic safety conditions.

In 1968, the UN promulgated the Agreement on Road Traffic and Road Signs and Signals as the basis for developing traffic signs in various countries. Since then, the traffic signs of various countries have gradually been moving towards the direction of international harmonization in terms of classification, shape, color and pattern. Accompanied by the popularization and road development of motor vehicles, more and more countries and governments are aware of the important role of traffic markings. With the guidance and promotion of some developed countries, these simple traffic control facilities have been used to achieve traffic safety With the continuous improvement of management techniques. At the same time, with the efforts of the EU, the United Nations and other international organizations, more and more countries have joined the unification movement of international road signs and signals and are trying their best to make new attempts to achieve international traffic convenience.
